Fun Fact
In 1903, Elisha Babcock, one of The Del's founders, helped visionary biologist William Ritter establish a research center in The Del’s boathouse. Ritter and his marine researchers collected plankton, coral, and many other species of marine life.
Their research attracted many prominent San Diegans, including publisher E.W. Scripps, who helped form the Marine Biological Association of San Diego. Ritter’s work continued there until 1905 when a permanent site was secured in La Jolla, now known as Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.
