About The Laundry

The Laundry was originally built in 1919 to serve the laundry needs of both Hotel del Coronado and local Coronado Island residents. The fleet of five laundry delivery trucks was a regular sight on the island until local service concluded in 1973. The Laundry continued to serve the needs of the hotel and its employees until 2018. For the duration of its 99-year history, equipment within The Laundry was powered by steam.

The Laundry restoration was completed in 2021 as part of The Del’s Master Plan project. The original brickwork was revealed after layers of paint were removed by hand, and the original conveyor system tracks are still in place above the restored wood floors. Signage dating back to 1925 was discovered during the renovation process and is displayed near the bar.
